This handsome 3-story Craftsman style home is located in the National Historic Landmark town of Jacksonville, Oregon. Originated in the 1850's gold rush, Jacksonville is nestled among Madrone and pine trees in the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon. Just 5 miles from I-5 at Medford and 17 miles from Ashland, it is the perfect base from which to explore all of Southern Oregon.
Jacksonville is full of wine, music, history and fun. We are Gateway to the Applegate Valley Wine Trail with 18 wineries, and the heart of the entire Southern Oregon Wine Region with over 70 wineries. And the in-town tasting rooms and pubs feature live music on a regular basis. But our musical highlight is the Britt Festivals – the northwest's premier outdoor performing arts series that runs from June through September – is in a spectacular outdoor amphitheater just five blocks away. Additional cultural experiences include the Oregon Shakespeare Festival with performances from mid-February through October in neighboring Ashland, along with four other theater companies and several regional performing arts centers.
For the outdoor enthusiast there are numerous hiking and biking opportunities, including 20+ miles on the in-town Woodland Trails, as well as river rafting, kayaking, and fly fishing on the Rogue River, and downhill and cross-country skiing nearby. Fun day trips just a short drive away include Crater Lake, Oregon Caves and the redwood forests.
Good news for our Bay area friends. Allegiant Air has just started service to the Medford Airport from Oakland. Flights are on Thursday and Sunday giving you either an extended weekend (flying up on Thursday and home on Sunday) or a great beginning of the week getaway (flying up on Sunday and home on Thursday). Either way you will have plenty of time for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Britt Music Festival, wine tasting, shopping and of course relaxing. Flights to and from are early in the morning which allows for a full day of activities when you get here and a full day to re-acclimate upon returning home. And low introductory fares can’t be beat. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival kicks off its 2012 season with four productions starting February 17, 18 and 19. The early offerings include "Romeo and Juliet", "Animal Crackers", "The White Snake":, and "Medea/Macbeth/Cinderella". So beat the crowds and take advantage of our off-season rates.
